New Preah Vihear Provincial Governor Inspects Wildlife and Assesses Carbon Credit Projects in the Province

PREAH VIHEAR: The Governor of Preah Vihear Province, Kim Rithy, led relevant officials and partner organizations to inspect the wildlife situation in the community of Andong Dang Phlit Protected Area and urged for the conservation of biodiversity in the area.

During a visit on Sunday, 4 September, Governor Kim Rithy inspected the vultures in the area and measured trees to assess carbon credits at the vulture restaurant in Boeung Toal field in the community forest of Andong Dang Phlit, located in Dang Phlit Village, Chhep Pei Commune, Chhep District, Preah Vihear Province.

According to a report from the Ministry of Environment, the Prey Andong Dangplit Protected Area has many species of birds such as giant vultures, wild ducks and cranes, and other animals like horses and amphibians. The many large trees and dense forest area are under the management, protection and conservation of the forest protection community.

Ministry of Environment Spokesperson, Neth Pheaktra, also confirmed that since 2016, the Ministry of Environment has been implementing three REDD+ projects, including: REDD+ Keo Seima, REDD+ South Cardamom and REDD+ Prey Lang. These projects receive about US $11.6 million from the sale of carbon credits.
